Texas is the only state in the country where employers are not required by law to
maintain worker's compensation coverage.
If you are injured on the job, there are
several things you should do to protect yourself and your family.  Below are just a
FEW
examples (which do
not replace the careful and comprehensive review of an attorney):

1) Seek medical attention for your injury as soon as possible and keep a copy of              
all your medical records;

2) File an injury report with your employer (more than likely your
Human                            
Resource Department) as soon as a possible;

3) Take pictures of your injuries (if appropriate);

4) Determine if your company is a subscriber to the Texas Worker
's                                  
 Compensation Act (or a
"Nonsubscriber");

5) Prepare a list of people that witnessed your injury (if appropriate);

6) Document your day to day restrictions and limitations caused by your injury;

7) Do not sign any severance or release agreements until you have consulted
   with an attorney;

8) Determine what type of benefits your employer sponsors and whether you are              
eligible for these benefits (for example, an Occupational Injury Benefit Plan).

9) Determine if other employees have been injured in the same place or manner;and

10) Document your findings and

What are some employer duties in the workplace?  

There are several duties your employer must follow to avoid accidents and potential

1) Every employer has a duty to provide its workers with a "Safe Working                          
    Environment;"

    Equipment" for its workers; and
